My Body, a.k.a. The Orchestra

OK, so I didn’t really want to talk about this, but I will because I can’t really think of a real reason not to.

So last weekend I attended the AMCIS conference in New York City with a former CS professor of mine. I had to make a presentation of a paper a few of us published. I succinctly compressed my presentation so that I would only use 9 of the 25 alotted minutes. I think the audience was in awe of me, because they were afraid to ask me questions afterward and only talked to my professor for 20 minutes while I stood behind the podium in full control of the room.

Anyway.

I got to NYC Friday night, stayed at the Marriot Marquis Hotel right in the middle of Times Square (thanks professor TSW). The conference went from Friday -> Sunday, so I stayed 3 days/2 nights.

So Sunday morning, around 7am, I’m sleeping in my queen sized bed while Prof. TSW has his own queen sized bed some feet away from mine. I don’t know how or why, but it was one of those sleep things definitely, I let one rip. Yes, a loud one, it lasted a whole second, proving Einstein’s Theory of Relativity that 1 second can feel like 1 year.

Why oh why did it happen that morning? I mean, it never happens when I’m asleep alone.

So I woke up immediately after it happened. I tried to act “cool” as if I was still asleep, not stirring at all. Praying to any gods or demons I could think of at that time that TSW didn’t hear me and was enjoying his REM sleep where he wouldn’t realize it if his head fell off. This pause+wait state went on for about 5 minutes at least, then BAM, I heard him move, he stirred!

So he definitely heard me.

That morning after we were fully awake, I did what any person would have done, I acted as if nothing happened a couple hours earlier, still hoping he was asleep during “the incident”, but knowing he wasn’t, and acting as if I was in deep sleep and didn’t realize what happened.

We haven’t talked about it and I hope he isn’t reading this.

I don’t remember eating any musical fruit that night, I wonder why. New environment? strange food? a subconscious reason perhaps?
