Not-Really-The-Best-Buy
So I got a package a few days ago, it was my DVI->HDMI cable (those things go for $50, what the hell huh?). Last night I finally got around to opening it up and hooking my cable box to my HDTV with it. No more component video baby, going all digital.
Hooked it up, the connection had TONS of static. I was like “static? what the? it’s a digital connection, it doesn’t have static at all, all or nothing digital baby”. Very strange, analog/digital channels had huge amounts of snow, while HDTV channels were coming in garbled. Weird, I’ll hook it up with to my DVD player instead, maybe it’s the cable box. This time the DVD player wouldn’t even “boot up” if the tv was on and connected with DVI instead of component.
Strange…
Couldn’t find anything online, couldn’t find anything in the Sony manual about this. It can’t be the cable, like I said, digital…all or nothing, you can’t just get a “bad” signal.
The umpteenth time I was switching the cables around I noticed something in the back of my tv near the HDMI input…the whole freaking side is cracked! I could push in the side corner and see the freaking insides of the TV.
It’s been 5 weeks since I bought the TV, I don’t know if it was damaged at the warehouse or during delivery to me. Didn’t even notice it cause I was using component inputs the whole time. Called the Best Buy I bought it from…nobody ever picks up in the TV department, bastards, 15 minutes of waiting after the stupid automated voice. I like the nicer people in stores in my hometown, every store I go it is full of people who like their job (or fake it well). Not up here in Alexandria/DC area, it’s a pain trying to talk to some people in stores (Read: Radioshack up here is full of idiots with more gel in their head than brains).
Saturday the 23rd, 10AM - 2PM I need to wait for the guys to come pick up the TV, see what the problem is, fix it, return it to me. No clue how many days that will take. The only way I got that appointment was calling the national 888 Best Buy repair line, now that had a great hot chick (by her voice I would think she was a super model) who was extremely helpful and apologetic when she put me on hold.
Go Extended Warranty, finally it gets some use!
If it turns out that it wasn’t caused at the manufacturers or during delivery (read: I did it myself), then I gotta pay for the damages. Why the crap would I damage my TV in the first month I got it? Hopefully they’ll fix it, not accuse me, and understand that common sense rules and I didn’t do anything.
