Lost My Review

So I finally got around to watching Lost, everybody’s fav addiction. Having only watched the first two episodes and never watching a sliver of any of the other episodes, my review may not match everybody’s (or my future) impression. So what do I think? Well written and acting is above average for the most part, albeit some of the actors could use a little more work (e.g. the brother/sister duo). But I do have a major point which annoys the brains out of me (Lost is just another show to be guilty of this…damn Smallville).

Why are most of the people models?

Seriously, not counting that fat black woman, all the women are hot. I mean they’re great to look at, but aren’t airplanes, much like the Department of Motor Vehicles, full of average looking folk? And adding a fat guy (plucky comedy relief) and an annoying black kid (ala. Jurassic Park 2…gymnast raptor fighter) do not automatically make the show representative of real life. Not to mention the required Fan Service directed toward young males every episode.

But if you look past those flaws and don’t want absolute perfect acting throughout (I’m sure it will get better once the actors fill the roles), it really is gripping. It divulges just the right amount of answers while introducing more secrets, keeping the viewer intrigued without inducing frustration. Comparable to returning to a restaurant to try the rest of their menu.

I just hope it doesn’t go into tons of flashbacks every episode. Not the flashbacks that go back just before the crash, but the ones that may spend an entire episode on some really dumb tangent of somebody’s life way before the crash ever happened. I don’t want to know everybody’s history, just their future. I’m sure it will end up doing that, I mean, how many episodes/seasons can you write about somebody being trapped on an island? Even Gilligan had its limits.

I don’t think you can judge “Lost” on the first two eps (especially if by “first two eps” you mean the two-hour pilot). I almost stopped watching it after the pilot, cause I was thinking “another lame sci-fi show” due to some events that happen. But the show is way better than my initial expectations and impressions. The writing is excellent. Everything is connected — nothing is coincidence on this show. Stick with it and you’ll be very pleased.
