So I moved from Cambridge to Somerville, a literal 8 minute walk away from my old place and my car insurance went up $160.

What the fudge?

Apparently, according to the customer service rep, all insurance companies base the premiums on the zip code. So going up 2 values in my zip code equals ~$160. My renter’s insurance went up $2 too, but I “lucked out”, they were nice enough to waive the $2 premium increase, the rep was sure to mention this.
