Pertaining To A Feast

Category: MusicTB @ 3:19 pm

Today is February 25th, the day the Sasquatch! Music Festival is supposedly announcing their lineup. So far I’m creaming my pants…

Modest Mouse, The Cure, Death Cab For Cutie, The Flaming Lips, M.I.A., Built To Spill, Flight Of The Conchords, The New Pornographers, The National, Okkervil River, Battles and the list goes on to around 55 bands (still many unconfirmed and the more bands are being leaked out today, R.E.M. is in there too, but I could take em or leave em).

If you know me, you know I’m planning on taking a week or two off this summer and just going somewhere (which reminds me, I still have to check on the Running of the Bulls). A music festival was always on the list, especially since I had much fun with Matty at Music Midtown back in twenty-ought-5. This year’s European festival list was looking quite sub-par, for the Isle of Wight Festival anyway, ironically being the strongest lineup of last year. The Reading and Leeds Festivals have yet to announce their lineup for 2008 though, but it’s been confirmed that all three headliners will be American… so why go to the UK for that?

The Bonnaroo Music Festival and the Coachella Festival had some good ones, but Sasquatch really does them one better.

Only counting the bands I want to see (or know about) and the ones not overlapping with Sasquatch:

Bonnaroo has Pearl Jam, Iron & Wine, Ben Folds, and Mastodon. Pearl Jam is amazing live and I would love to see them again, but combined with the other three performers, I just don’t get pushed over the edge, sorry Bonnaroo.

Coachella has Architecture In Helsinki, Portishead, and Animal Collective… wow, I’m either really ignorant on new music (probable actually, I’m a complete poseur) or their line up sucks. Architecture In Helsinki are fun to see though, give them a shot if you’re ever around em.

Sasquatch, you will be mine, I will find the center in you, I will chew it up and leave. Now to wait for the Austin City Limits Music Festival lineup…

Update: Deeds complained… yes, she was at Music Midtown too and it was fun. Happy?

I’d Rather Be At Paddy’s

Category: General, Movies & TVTB @ 9:57 am

I got out of the shower this morning and noticed I had two voice mails. Strange for somebody to call at 8am, but I just shrugged my shoulders and continued to dial my voice mail number… complete silence, both voice mails. Curious. I then checked the caller-id and they were both from O’Sullivan’s Pub.

Man, I must’ve had a pretty nice time last night if they’re calling me so early in the morning the next day… twice! I felt like a Greek God… one of the cool one’s with muscles and powers, not the ugly limping one.

Ironically, I honestly don’t think I left my apartment all day yesterday. But whatever… Greek God!

Mirror Mirror On The Blog

Category: General, Photos With TB, TechTB @ 10:25 pm

I FINALLY got around to uploading my photo backlog of concerts and weird crap. Also spent some time and switched from a self-hosted image host to using Picasa Web Albums. Why? Well I was waiting for Gallery2 to get its act together with EXIF information, ease of setup, geo-tagging, and just plain purdiness, but I just got fed up.

Picasa does wonders, especially since all my photos now have comment sections, unlike before. Want to make fun of something in the photo? Too effin’ bad, go to hell. Want to ask what I was eating in the photo? You’re more than welcome to add to the comment space for that pic.

The highlights of the new additions? Um… none really, just a LOT of concert photos, inane photos are, as always, added into the “year” albums (e.g. 2007 & 2008). My new cell phone also supports geo-tagging via its GPS functionality. So if I go to Alaska, take a few photos, upload them to Picasa, BAM!, the longitude & latitude information in the photo is used to pinpoint exactly where I was when I took the photo. I’m hoping to use this if I ever go on a trip somewhere.

False Slurpification

Category: GeneralTB @ 2:54 pm

Went with a few friends after lunch today and grabbed us some Slurpees. The freaking machine was mislabeled and got some coconut punch Slurpee thing that looked exactly like the Coca Cola flavor, whatever though, it wasn’t that bad, wasn’t coke though alas.

Forgot to mention that they didn’t even have the 40oz cone shaped tops for the Slurpee cups either, had to ask for em… another pain at the local 7-11.

I’m going to write them a slightly stern letter and then I shall be the one with the last laugh, oh yes, comeuppance. I still need to go to Winnipeg, Manitoba (The Slurpee Capital of the World) one of these days and Slurpee it up with the locals, it’s on my list of things to do before I die… or get horribly injured… or horribly lazy.

Currently Listening To XII…

Baroness - Red Album

Released last year, it’s a metal band, but their sound rises to the level of becoming symphonic. 90% of their music in that album is instrumental, the vocals that are included are a bit harsh, but slip right in with the moods created by the song.

I gotta say, this is probably one of the better metal albums of last year, which I thought was a low metal year personally. Serj Tankian’s Elect the Dead is the only metal/hard-rock album that comes to mind right now that I even bother to listening to. Actually, Marilyn Manson’s Eat Me, Drink Me was sexy. Puscifer, Smashing Pumpkins (their last release seemed a bit heavy, so I think it fits in this discussion), and so many others… let down.

Now when the hell is Reznor going on tour…
