I Have A Friend!

I Know Where U Live

That’s correct, that’s a scan of a psychotic letter I received recently in the mail.

Sender unknown? Check
Addressed to TB? Check
Sent from the middle of nowhere? Check
All my friends are truly oblivious of this? Check

So if you or anybody you know hates me (likely) and lives in Pierre, South Dakota (unlikely), please contact me:

I was a little freaked out when I got this letter, opening it up late at night didn’t help, but going to straight to bed and forgetting about it did help. And it really was sent from Pierre, South Dakota, the USPS date stamp confirms it. That’s a bit hard to forge.

So what did I end up doing about this? Call the police? Call my mother? Move? Get aroused? Go CSI on the letter’s arse? Nay! I lazied out, contacted one person to see if she was lame enough to send me this letter (yes, she was lame enough and no, she didn’t send it) and then forgot about it. Figured if I was going to die or if it is some really strange prank, nothing I can really do about it except wait it out.

As of today it has been 15 days since the letter was mailed and nobody has come forward and I’m still alive. If you don’t hear from me after this post, well, I’m probably dead. If you do hear from me after this post, then I wish you were dead.

Mirror Mirror On The Blog

I FINALLY got around to uploading my photo backlog of concerts and weird crap. Also spent some time and switched from a self-hosted image host to using Picasa Web Albums. Why? Well I was waiting for Gallery2 to get its act together with EXIF information, ease of setup, geo-tagging, and just plain purdiness, but I just got fed up.

Picasa does wonders, especially since all my photos now have comment sections, unlike before. Want to make fun of something in the photo? Too effin’ bad, go to hell. Want to ask what I was eating in the photo? You’re more than welcome to add to the comment space for that pic.

The highlights of the new additions? Um… none really, just a LOT of concert photos, inane photos are, as always, added into the “year” albums (e.g. 2007 & 2008). My new cell phone also supports geo-tagging via its GPS functionality. So if I go to Alaska, take a few photos, upload them to Picasa, BAM!, the longitude & latitude information in the photo is used to pinpoint exactly where I was when I took the photo. I’m hoping to use this if I ever go on a trip somewhere.

In Love With A Pornographer

Well I’ve been swimming in live music the past several days.

Last week I caught The Smashing Pumpkins at the Orpheum Theatre with Thomas & Garfield. Billy Corgan, he’s talented, but man, his new Pumpkins album is the suck. He did play a long show though, which I must love him for, plus he played many a good song. Set The Ray To Jerry made my night, thanks Corgan.

The next night I grabbed some dinner with the Chows in Chinatown and then we headed to The Roxy to catch Spoon in action. My first time at the Roxy and I gotta tell ya, I like that venue. The stage is a bit low, but it’s cozier and cleaner than The Avalon. Spoon performed their magic, but some tall douche-bag in front of us annoyed the junk outta us. Tall people should be required to stay in the back, dorks.

Saturday night I headed to Great Scott with a buddy and caught a few bands: The Octopus Project, Enon, Ho-Ag, and So Many Dynamos. The Octopus Project were the headliners, they’re an instrumental band and their gimmick? One of the performers rocks at playing the theremin. Yeah, the first (only?) musical instrument that can played without touching it. They were surprisingly lively and good musicians, plus they didn’t overdo the theremin playing, which was a plus.

So Many Dynamos were probably my number one pick for openers. They’re stage talkers, which I always enjoy, love the on stage banter. So apparently David Arquette is a fan of theirs since he jumped on stage at one of their shows, thus they dedicate a song to him at every show. Also, they were at the Keene, NH Pumpkin Festival that weekend as well and they wanted to perform. So they apparently talked somebody into letting them perform on stage. The stage? Jesus Is Lord Tour. What they said about that?… “We sold three CDs after the show, those people are in for a surprise”.

Last night we went to see The New Pornographers, again at The Roxy. I almost didn’t make it, I hadn’t received the tickets and there was a “no exceptions” rule to tickets being giving out again without a weeks notice. Luckily they made an exception (not talking about Ticketmaster) and canceled my ticket barcodes and put me on the will-call list. Whew.

The show was perfect (almost…freaking tall people). Neko and Dan were both there, which was stupendous. They’ve been missing some shows, Neko because of her solo tour and Dan because…he’s lazy? They played everything I wanted EXCEPT Letter From An Occupant, alas. But it’s OK, I made up for it by falling in love with Kathryn Calder. A “new” New Pornographer, but a great addition I think. Randomly met up with a couple friends there, didn’t realize they were going to be at that show. Talked with em for a few afterward, that was a bonus.

Grabbed some ice-cream a bit before midnight (gotta love J.P. Licks late night) and then headed home.

It’s So Good, Cause It’s The Hood

So I had an amazing time last night, shame Lyds was there too, zing! So here goes…

First we got some amazing Korean bibbidy bop at Super 88. I think it’s one of my fav dishes ever. Ever. I made a new sleepy homeless BFF there while saving her life in slow motion as she fell from her Pepsi tea drinking high. After which somebody shouted “Superman” and I went and collected my Bubble Tea, which was preceded by a conversation of that name and succeeded by another conversation of that name with somebody else. It went something like this:

Me: I would like to order a yogurt slush please, no boba.
Cute Girl 1: OK, and your name please?
Me: Superman.
Cute Girl 1 (as she continues to play with the register): Did you just say Superman?
Me: I just said Superman.
Cute Girl 1 (with a smile on her face that lasts): OK, thank you.

A little while later…

Cute Girl 2 (shouting across the food court): SUPERMAN!
Me (turning around): That’s me.
Cute Girl 2: Here is your tea. What’s your real name anyway?
Me: *tells her real name*
Cute Girl 2: What was that?
Me: Exactly!
Cute Girl 2: *smiles*
Me: *thanks her and walks away*

I made a doofus of myself and embarrassed Lyds at the yogurt stand too cause of that little joke since. Score.

After that we headed to see some Swede rock at The Avalon for a Peter Bjorn And John concert. We arrived as their first song was ending, but managed to get a good location to watch the show from regardless. They put on a lively show, shame the audience didn’t seem like hardcore dedicated fans though (not that they weren’t enjoying the music greatly, they just didn’t seem to know all the lyrics to all the songs, like a nerd fan would, which is fine, but was bummin when the singer would point the mic toward the audience to barely hear somebody shouting the words).

Two amazing parts…

  • A crazy fan girl jumped up on stage and danced for a good five minutes and eventually got off the stage. She was nuts, it was great.
  • The lead singer, after getting real dizzy, fell on stage (on purpose, but he looked real dizzy though) and after getting back up had a HUGE rip in the center of his jeans. Good thing it was the last song before the encore, so he had time to change. Ha!

From there I invited myself along to a get-together thing Lyds was having with her friend Miko, for her birthday. First we headed to Wonder Bar, I met seven new people there, surprisingly they were all nice people…and they knew Lyds…zing! We hung out there for a little bit and then headed down to Doremi, a karaoke joint. We all rented out a room and had the most sexiest embarrassing-est time in the world. I kid you not, this was the first time I was doing karaoke and I would definitely be up for it again, especially considering since I am not a karaoke guy. Guess I am now since I excel at horrible singing.

The selection there was monumental. All the English songs had an entire large binder, while the Japanese and Korean selection had multiple binders all over the place. The room itself had a great sound system, a big screen TV, dance lights on the ceiling, and two very complicated remotes whose controls were in Japanese…I assume it was Japanese. We stayed there until 1AM, only cause that’s when it was closing. After which we wished Miko happy birthday again and left the place, satisfied and humming Yellow Submarine…the Barbie Song for some.

By the way, Lyds knows all the words to all ‘N Sync, Backstreet Boys, and Spice Girls songs. Nice voice too actually.

Busy As A TB

Well, I haven’t really been major busy with something, it’s just the little things that need to get done end up taking a lot of time everyday. By the time I can sit down and relax…time to get ready for bed. I’m actually typing this past-midnight, even with work tomorrow. My past few posts have been about recaps, well, this is another one.

So last Saturday I went to Kimball Farm in Westford, MA. The large location with a driving range and water tubing and mini-golf and other junk. Why’d we go there? The ice-cream obviously. Let me tell you, this place has the MOST creamiest and …”ice-cream tasting” ice-cream ever. Oh, and the “small” size is HUGE. Good thing I got the large, I’m an animal. I gotta go back there. Plus I was the only one to finish all his ice-cream too. Woof.

That night a couple of us went to see Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End. Much much better than the sequel, but not quite as good as the original. But then again, it was a “let’s make more money” type of trilogy anyhow. I love Geoffery Rush…and Johnny Depp…and Keira Knightly, gawd she’s amazing.

Sunday I grabbed some lunch with Lyds at Toscanini’s. We both got the Fried Egg Sandwich with rouille (spicy mayonnaise) and some fresh squeezed orange juice. The OJ was a bit tangy, but the sandwich, wow, a must eat, try it out, the spicy mayo was perfect. Had a pretty good lemony scone and ice cream too, but the sandwich…ouch. After that I got Lyds to try her first Ferrero Rocher. I honestly can’t believe she’s never had it before, what a freaking weirdo. And here I thought the Chow sisters had tried all the amazing foods in the world. I was sadly mistaken.

Oh btw, other than the waking up early, I’m still loving every day at work. Seriously, I can’t believe they’re paying me for this job, I would be perfectly content being an unpaid intern there…don’t tell them that though.

And what the hell is up with the freaking hot weather yesterday and today? Seriously Ra, get your act together.

Sat Day

Well today was a good Saturday. Busy, yet enjoyable enough to make it a good weekend.

  1. Woke up at 9:50AM, started refreshing the Ticketmaster webpage like crazy, scored some tickets to see Tool at Tweeter in July.
  2. Met with a potential roommate, he came over, checked out the place, he seemed really cool. I don’t think he’s coming back, ah well.
  3. Went over to the B&B Circus with Manz, saw some kick arse 5th grader band do a cover of Green Day’s Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Those kids were really good. Got some awesome mint chocolate chip ice-cream and hung out with Manz, who I hadn’t made fun of face-to-face for a while.
  4. Went to see Hot Fuzz with Lyds and rydw i and then got some Lebanese food with the Chows and rydwi afterward. Correction, after we got some drinks and amazing french fries at Deep Ellum. Hot Fuzz is the most amazing movie ever.

Also, I finally got around to putting up lotsa pics in the photos section, in the 2007 folder, Letters’ visit last weekend, and some from today too.

Coughed Up Some Pics

So I tossed up some pics from my recent trip to New England, plus the pictures of the Williamsburg trip, and a few odds & ends in the 2007 folder. Oh yeah, got videos up there too. You get bored, you check em out, you don’t like em, you go to hell.

As always, check the photos section.
