Bigfoot Festival

So it looks like I won’t be attending the Sasquatch! Music Festival in Washington state this Memorial Day weekend. And obviously along with that goes the idea of a road trip to San Francisco down the sewage pipe too.

I’m probably going to Craig’s List the tickets I bought in a couple weeks (here’s hoping I come close to breaking even) and cancel the hotel reservations I made (and here’s hoping they don’t bite at me or charge me). All my friends bailed on the festival + road trip idea, bunch of lamers (you know who you are!). I think I liked it better when my friends were in school, they could all take time off much more easily.

This trip was supposed to be a rejuvenation, a rise from the ashes, the Rebirth from the monomyth. Alas it wasn’t meant to be. I’ll find something else then, for we all know tuae ipsius fortunae faber es.

2008 MOD 2 == 0

I believe in self-fulfillment, always have. If you expect something to happen, it will happen. Placebos work on this principle, so being raised by human parents has had this effect on me, I have successfully fulfilled my fear of even-numbered years. 2008, you are a model example of why I hate your division by 2 sans remainder, congratulations, you are currently placed #1, right after 2006.

Right now I’m just holding out for Memorial Day weekend, I don’t care if I don’t end up going to the Sasquatch Music Festival, the hell with all the money I’ve already spent on tickets and the hotel, I’ve already told my work I’m taking a couple weeks off and I don’t care, I just want out, anywhere. If Washington doesn’t work, then Texas, or Canada, or the UK, I’ve got friends I could force to show me around in those places.

Other than that I must say that I really do have friends who I never want to lose, they’re always around to bug me to keep me happy and distracted, not to mention my family. My younger sister came to visit for her spring break. Everybody did all this, no questions asked.

Running Festival

So I’m off to run again, this time at two races, back to back. The Husky Run on March 29th and the Luv2Run Boston 5K #1 on March 30th. The worst thing about all of this? I have to be there by 10AM, what a pain. So if you’re around that day and want to maybe grab something to eat afterward (or meet me in the hospital), ping me.

The Independent Film Festival of Boston also started advertising today (at least I noticed it today). I remember last year I missed it and was hella pissed, I think I either had interviews or was out of town or something. This year I’m hoping to catch a lot of the flicks, but also hoping I’ll be able to skip out on work to do so. Will probably pick up the all movie pass instead of standing in line. Anybody want to join me? Going to movies alone is boring, ironically, especially since nobody talks. There was a pretty good line up of films last year, I’m sure this year will be the same.

Pertaining To A Feast

Today is February 25th, the day the Sasquatch! Music Festival is supposedly announcing their lineup. So far I’m creaming my pants…

Modest Mouse, The Cure, Death Cab For Cutie, The Flaming Lips, M.I.A., Built To Spill, Flight Of The Conchords, The New Pornographers, The National, Okkervil River, Battles and the list goes on to around 55 bands (still many unconfirmed and the more bands are being leaked out today, R.E.M. is in there too, but I could take em or leave em).

If you know me, you know I’m planning on taking a week or two off this summer and just going somewhere (which reminds me, I still have to check on the Running of the Bulls). A music festival was always on the list, especially since I had much fun with Matty at Music Midtown back in twenty-ought-5. This year’s European festival list was looking quite sub-par, for the Isle of Wight Festival anyway, ironically being the strongest lineup of last year. The Reading and Leeds Festivals have yet to announce their lineup for 2008 though, but it’s been confirmed that all three headliners will be American… so why go to the UK for that?

The Bonnaroo Music Festival and the Coachella Festival had some good ones, but Sasquatch really does them one better.

Only counting the bands I want to see (or know about) and the ones not overlapping with Sasquatch:

Bonnaroo has Pearl Jam, Iron & Wine, Ben Folds, and Mastodon. Pearl Jam is amazing live and I would love to see them again, but combined with the other three performers, I just don’t get pushed over the edge, sorry Bonnaroo.

Coachella has Architecture In Helsinki, Portishead, and Animal Collective… wow, I’m either really ignorant on new music (probable actually, I’m a complete poseur) or their line up sucks. Architecture In Helsinki are fun to see though, give them a shot if you’re ever around em.

Sasquatch, you will be mine, I will find the center in you, I will chew it up and leave. Now to wait for the Austin City Limits Music Festival lineup…

Update: Deeds complained… yes, she was at Music Midtown too and it was fun. Happy?
