Yesterday my legs itch like nuts, today they’re past the itching phase and onto the sore/hurting phase. Is there like a secret home made mythical recipe to cure this? Like a bath in 2% milk or natural peanut butter lotion or maybe getting an 80 year old lady to bite through your skin under a full moon in a cemetary while holding hands in a freshly dug grave?

My legs hurt, heal me!

I got back from a race a couple hours ago. This one went immensely better than last month’s race. Last month it was incredibly hot, impossibly humid, plus like an idiot I had around 4 hours of sleep the night before. Needless to say, worst finishing time ever.

Today’s race, same distance as last time, fared around 3 minutes and 9 seconds better. Yeah, scary isn’t it? That’s a big difference. I’m not saying that I’m in better shape, I’m just saying last time sucked. This wasn’t even my best time (just thought I’d throw that little tidbit in there to boost my ego). Too effin’ crowded at these things. Kid you not, elbow to elbow for the first 2 miles. Sucked.

I swear, I’m not doing any more of these post-work weekday races, going to stick with the weekend morning ones. Sure you can’t sleep in, but the run is actually fun and my times are much better. Plus no crowds.

After a two week hiatus I got back into my running routine tonight. The news fares well my friends, no neck, shoulder, or back pain… I live eternal!

Or maybe I’m doing something wrong, why you ask? Well, um, I think I may have run too much or maybe not right or something… I removed my socks and a couple of the toes in my right foot were bloody.

I think my body hates me.

I sense the weather is shifting, my corporeal self is tired of taking orders from a grey mass which gets all the credit. If nobody hears from me soon, then I have been ravaged in a bloody civil war of personal proportions. This rising coup d’état will be quenched!

I think my mind is starting to hate me too.

It’s been a week and a half, my neck/upper-back pain has been having its ups and downs. Today was supposed to be my first 5.5 mile race, I’m pretty positive I’m skipping it because I’m really really hurting today and it seems to be getting worse as the day goes along.

So I’m honestly going to go to the doctor Monday if it doesn’t get better, 2 weeks of non-stop pain, that’s all I can take I think. My sleep has been junk too and not to mention I can’t go running either.

Gawd I hope there is a physical reason for all of this, because if I go to the doc and she says it’s all psychological or chalks it up to stress… punch in the face!

I was in love last night, I was ready to propose… “Will you marry me ibuprofen?” I was ready to ask. Well it’s a good thing I didn’t, it one-night-standed me up.

Last night before I went to bed I tossed a pill. Great, much better, still hurts, can’t do yoga or anything, but a lot better. Woke up this morning around 10am, in pain. No biggie, my lover shall save me. Took a pill… hours later, still in pain.

What the hell?

I’m thinking if this doesn’t get better by Tuesday morning, I’m calling in sick and going to the hospital. I Googled ‘neck pain’ and ‘running’ and some of the hits mentioned spinal injuries, freaked me out, just because I’ve had muscle pain before, but it has never been this bad or lasted this long.

Hmm, or it could be cancer. Does cancer of the neck exist?

The most annoying thing? I can’t even take a leak properly, just because I can’t look down to see if my penis is at the right angle or not, makes the post-leak shake a bit tougher too.

The second worst pain so far? Drying my hair with a towel after the shower. I just ended up putting the towel over my head and hoped I could maybe sponge up some moisture. The worst pain, tossing and turning in bed, I swear I’d die for a few minutes every time I’d turn my head on the pillow.

Pray for Mojo.

I went to get a haircut after work, no big deal, but with this neck issue (see the post below this one), I was dying. Poor Jody, she felt so bad asking me turn my head or look up and down, she did the best she could with the chair and doing acrobatics herself for my haircut’s sake.

Her theory was that it was allergies that settled around my neck and upper back, thus giving me extreme muscle pains. (Her first theory was stress at work, which isn’t really true, I love my job, it’s gotten “busier” lately, but no stress there). She tossed out the usual remedies… ice, massage, etc. I figured, a good run would fix everything, I mean, endorphins you know? They rock.

I got a second opinion from a friend as to why I’m in pain. Stress. Yeah, stress. What the hell do I have to stress about? And if it was stress, ice-cream and sleep would’ve taken care of it when the pains appeared earlier this week. I have literally gone to get ice-cream three times this week (Lizzy’s twice and JP Licks once) and am pretty sure I’m getting the normal amount of sleep, normal for me that is, so the aches should’ve left me by now. Nope.

I literally just finished my run… dude, bad idea. Now I can’t look down, I seriously have to keep my chin parallel to the floor and I can look up about 30°. As for turning my head left and right? Oh those were the days… That’s bad enough, but now, even keeping my head seriously still and staring at the monitor while I type this, I hurt.

Endorphins screwed me.

Ow.

I’ve been sleeping weird or something, since Tuesday my neck and back have been killing me. I don’t know why, my pillows and my sleeping style haven’t really changed. I haven’t run in a couple days cause I’ve been a bit busy, but that shouldn’t matter, skipping a run never hurt this bad.

So the pain has gotten exponentially worse. Today I can’t even look up or turn my neck horizontally without my torso following it. Think it’s worse now than it was this morning. Help me Jobu!

It’s going to suck tomorrow. Going out of town for a day, driving 8 hours will definitely be torture (4 hours each way). At least I’ll have an amazingly lazy Sunday and Monday (go Memorial Day, score!) to just sleep all day, read books, watch movies, and order out.

Got my fingers crossed that my neck doesn’t pooch it to me.

So I turned my cell phone on this morning like normal after I woke up. Lo and behold, amazing news! My younger sister got in Boston University’s high school summer program so she’ll be up here for a couple months this summer. YE-freaking-S! This program is a toughie to get into apparently so the plan was for her to get into her backup choices and move to Boston for the summer regardless. I think she mentioned Northeastern and Emerson as backups, I don’t really recall. But she’s wicked smart, so go her.

I also signed up for the 2008 Let’s Run Series. Five races, all 4.2 miles, all throughout the summer. Doing this with a buddy, just because. They’re all in the evening, so hopefully it won’t be too warm to run, and hopefully I won’t be too tired after work and will actually improve in my race time. But then again, I don’t really know my “best” time for a 4.2 miler, the only timed races I’ve run are the 5k ones.

Also, I’ve got a Kills concert on the 30th that I want to go to. I’ve got an extra ticket, but nobody wants to come with, what the hell? It’s at The Paradise, which is a pretty good venue, plus there’s good food around that area. So don’t be a dork and come with, they’re a good band people!

So I’m off to run again, this time at two races, back to back. The Husky Run on March 29th and the Luv2Run Boston 5K #1 on March 30th. The worst thing about all of this? I have to be there by 10AM, what a pain. So if you’re around that day and want to maybe grab something to eat afterward (or meet me in the hospital), ping me.

The Independent Film Festival of Boston also started advertising today (at least I noticed it today). I remember last year I missed it and was hella pissed, I think I either had interviews or was out of town or something. This year I’m hoping to catch a lot of the flicks, but also hoping I’ll be able to skip out on work to do so. Will probably pick up the all movie pass instead of standing in line. Anybody want to join me? Going to movies alone is boring, ironically, especially since nobody talks. There was a pretty good line up of films last year, I’m sure this year will be the same.

OK, lets get to the meat.

How’d I do in the 5K (3.1 miles) race? Well out of 478 folks I got 112, here are the stats:

Place: 112/478

Time: 25:14

Pace: 8:08

Age Group: 18-29

Place/Group: 48

Place/Sex: 85 M

So I did “OK” for my first race ever, I’m hoping my next one I’ll do much better, considering the no food/water thing most likely hurt me this time around. OK, so not so “OK”, but gimme a break, my first time you freaks.
